Our first production to reopen theatres this year is the thrilling reimagining of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar directed by Artistic Director Kip Williams. It’s the perfect opportunity to look back on other times Shakespeare has been reinvented on stage at Sydney Theatre Company. Here are some of our most memorable Shakespeare moments.

1982 MACBETH

In 1982, we saw stage icon John Bell play Macbeth, eight years before he went on to form Bell Shakespeare. Despite many amazing performances with STC over the years, this was the only time John performed in a Shakespeare with STC. 1989 A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Couples and coupling are at the heart of A Midsummer Night's Dream, with plenty of partner-swapping drama to keep things interesting. In our 1989 production, Mark Pegler and Susan Lyons played the uber-fairies Oberon and Titania. 2007 TAMING OF THE SHREW

We're technically cheating with this one but without Shakespeare's Hamlet there would be no Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard – a feast of metatheatre, laughs, and Shakespeare references abound.
